In hind site, with the city and all my "people" safe, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the experience. I'm not going to dwell on any of that as there other things on my mind. I wanted to post this link I found on a web forum. It's a letter written by a resident of Wasilla, Alaska, the town Sarah Palin served as Mayor. It's a bit of a long read, but I think it's worth it. This is the closest, first-hand knowledge that I have ever heard regarding this woman, Mrs. Palin. I'm not going to make the inexperience arguement, as that is futile at this point. I'm simply going to let letter doing its own talking. Please take the time to read it and I would love to hear your opinion.

On a separate and much more pleasent note. WHO D'AT! The city of New Orleans is slowly preparing to RISE UP against the hate of oppression and resound of cry of deviance against those vile storms that try to keep our people down! I got into this for a while and then slowly fizzled off for a few months and haven't posted anything since. Not that anyone is really complaining. Anyways, I figured I post something short and to the point. Life's been wild, which is prolly why I haven't posted anything in a while.

Since my last post, which was in late January.....god I'm a slacker sometimes.....anyways, since then, I've received my Master's Degree (yay!); moved to Mid-City (get ready New Year's and Endymion); started a new job teaching and counseling at a local school (lots of work, but I love it more and more each day); and am in the process of starting my PhD work (scary as hell but I think it's time to really test my brain like this). Anyways, thought it was worth posting what's been happening to me lately. I'm going to try and get things posted a bit more just has a way to keep the creative juices flowing and, if no one else, keep myself updated on everything that I'm getting myself into these days.

The Return of DJ Petri

DJ Petri returned to action in New Orleans recently. The beloved party-thrower, artist, and genius reemerged onto the scene with two exclusive gigs at the Moonlight Cafe. DJ Petri has been absent from New Orleans performance in the last years because of displacement from Katrina, but I am proud to report that we are once again lucky enough to this man in our midsts as he continues what has already been a noted career.

DJ Petri grew up on the hard streets of Detroit, MI where he learned the hard-way the value of a dollar and the power that beats can bring to people. After perfecting his craft in back-alley clubs of Mobile, AL, DJ Petri exploded onto the scene with late-night sets at 251 and early-morning throwdowns at the original Soul Kitchen. His career reached it's height when he teamed up with The New Lows for several select shows that brought all those involved to very pinnacle of stardom and fame. DJ Petri returns to us following his Katrina Exodus in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and has been living in New Orleans for an undisclosed time prior to these gigs.

If we are lucky, this is only the beginning of what will hopefully be a citywide change in consciousness as we once again lucky enough to play host one of music's true originals.

A good time was had by all that attended the shows. Highlights included ho-bo's begging for change and money both nights, as well as silly white-boy dancing and the illustrious appearance of Mr. Donny Fraizer. Arriving by limo, this man sent the club into a frenzy and proceeded to throwdown a whirlwind of chaos over the course of his entire weekend in New Orleans. Future shows may or may not be announced, hopefully you'll be cool enough to hear about it.

Sushi!

So I felt I should devote a full post to this new sushi place that I just went to: Sushi Brothers. I had the pleasure of dining there with my Dad and my girlfriend recently, and I must say that it is on its way to becoming my new favorite sushi restaurant. The creativity and presentation was absolutely top notch and the way they mixed newer ingredients into their rolls absolutely blew me away! The picture above is of two rolls that we had. The closer roll is the LSU Roll and is made of a tempura fried shrimp with yellow tail wrapped with rice and seaweed and topped with tuna, avocado, and a sweet-roe sauce. The one further back is a godly creation known as the Saint's Black and Gold Roll. This little beauty is composed of a shrimp fried in coconut tempura, combined with cream cheese and wrapped with seaweed and rice. It is then topped with MANGO!, avocado and a little roe. It was the best sushi roll that I have eaten in recent memory. If you're ever in New Orleans or are already in New Orleans and looking for sushi, give this place a try.

WOW....Just wow....

This work is simply amazing....I can't even begin to conceive of the difficulty and talent involved in doing such detailed work. I went to the Christmas Tree Bonfire on Orleans Ave. As usual it was chaos incarnate and great time was had by all. We had to do a bit of work to keep the sanitation department from dragging away our tree, but we staked our claim and defended our fire. I'd like to spend a special shout-out to the newly formed MCBC (Mid-City Bonfire Commission) for all of their hard work and effort in getting things together this year. I feel it was a great success.

In addition to the Bonfire, I had the pleasure of seeing an amazing house fire while hanging out at a friend's house the other night. I kind of feel bad saying that it was a pleasure to watch these poor people's house burn, but I can't help but love watching firefighters doing their job. As the pictures will reveal, the flames weren't really shooting out of the house so much as they creating huge amounts of heat and pressure inside the house itself. Watching the firemen ripping apart the roof to let the gas and heat escape while others blasted the interior with water was fascinating. I was able to really watch the strategy the guys used to battle the blaze and the technique that they employed to keep things manageable and safe for their own people. I have to say, it truly inspiring to watch the intensity and selflessness with which the firefighters worked. We as a people are blessed to have people that are willing to risk that much and truly give of themselves for the good of others.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nolawegs.blogspot.com/2008/01/fires-for-new-years.html' title='FIRES! Faith is wonderful and beautiful thing...in moderation. I have faith. I have faith in many things. I have faith in my friends; I have in tomorrow; and I have faith in the New Orleans Saints. I think faith is more of a commitment on your part than it is a belief in whatever it is you have faith in. I think that if you profess to have faith in a particular anything, you are making a commitment to being there for that whatever no matter what life throws at you and or what that things does to you. I think that the problems arise when people have too much faith, make too much of a commitment to particular thing or belief or idea or whatever you want to call whatever it is that person has faith in. When someone makes such a commitment that it blinds them and clouds their judgement, this now "blinded" faith stops them being able to efficiently process and understand what it is they are experiencing. Combine this with their, most likely, surrounding themselves with inputs that support this altered perception of experience and an almost denial like change in thought patterns and you get people that believe nothing but their faith. Faith is no longer a crutch on which to lean in times of trouble and banner to raise high during moments of glory. Faith is now something wholly different. Faith is now a rationalization for irrational thinking; it becomes its own logic. And faith, my friends, is no logic.

So rejoice in faith; celebrate it; cry in it; profess it; dress in it; write about it; sing about it; dance with it; die with it; but please....don't be blinded by it.

I'd also like it make mention of the inspiration and initial event leading to this thought exercise. My New Orleans Saints. We lost yesterday, it hurt. We really didn't play all that well to be honest. I thought the first quarter was great but we just couldn't hold it together down that stretch. Defense didn't seem to be on the same page; and, I don't know if its just me or not, but it didn't really seem like crowd was as intense as I was hoping for. We started out strong, but I think we lost some energy towards the end when they needed us the most. Granted, the teams didn't really give us all that much to be excited about. Any way you look at it, the Who D'at Nation had a rough one.

But remember your faith my brothers and sisters in Who D'at. There is still a chance. And, if the Redskins and Vikings don't lose, there is forever next year. We've had a hard season this year but I really think it's shown this team what it's made off and, more importantly, brought a lot of humility to everyone involved in the organization.

One Nation

PS
The Brothers Wegmann are now 6-1 when both are in attendance for a Saints game.

One Nation

The Who D'at Nation arose in glory today. Through a strong show of solidarity and faith, the people and the team united under one glorious flag of Who D'at, ousting the Cardinals of Arizona by a score of 31 to 24. I'd like to send personal thanks out to the members of Section 649 and the power that those wonderful people put into every second of the game. The crowd definitely had strong effect during some key moments in game, including earning an outsides free play which turned into a long gain for Mr. Colston as well causing Kurt Warner to a take an extra time-out in the second half. Fans, I salute you. Let's keep the energy up and give the boys in black and gold a good send off against the Eagles next week.....game on.

PS
Of important note is this fact: New Orleans Saints have never lost a game at which both Wegmann brothers are in attendance. I've started my own blog. I've been "meaning" to do this for quite some time now, but have never really had the urge in me to go all the way through with it. Well things have changed. I doubt that many people will read this, but it's nice to have it out there nonetheless. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to post on this thing, most likely it will be ramblings and musings that I come up with and probably some videos, pictures, and music that I find interesting. This isn't going to be a complicated blog, I'm going to try and keep it as simple as I can (mostly for my own sake) but, then again, who knows!?! I may get totally into this and start doing all kinds of crazy programming stuff. Although, on the other hand, I think there is an equally likely chance that I won't do anything with this blog, will get ten posts into it, lose my interest, and never post on it again.

But you! You dear internet will be the playground. You will see my successes and failures in the blogosphere. You will see whether people actually read this or whether it goes by the way-side as one of what I'm sure are thousands of blogs that never see the light of a reader's eye. Hurrah, Hurrah for you my faithful cyber-companion!

So join me as I move into this exciting new world of time-wasting, we'll scour the interweb for silly pictures, randoms videos, weird sound-bytes, and amusing information.
